About Me
I was lucky enough to be born and brought up on a farm in Lower Wensleydale in North Yorkshire. The area is a fantastic resource offering so much inspiration for artists with it's heather moors and individual dales, wonderful coastline and rich agricultural land.Art was always my favourite subject, and my first real effort at painting was quite a memorable one - for all the wrong reasons! I was given a box of paints for my eighth or ninth birthday and I can remember trying to reproduce an imaginary but very clear image of a forest fire which was wildly out of control with the shooting flames being reflected in a lake in the foreground.
Enthusiastically I mixed the paint and put it on the paper with a degree of looseness that I now aspire to. Unfortunately the more paint I put on, the messier it became until the paper eventually totally disintegrated!
Despite my enthusiasm, a career in art was not encouraged but the urge to draw something "bubbled up to the surface" about every five years or so. However, it wasn't until 2000 that I started to paint and it wasn't until about 18 months later, when I produced 'Apple Blossom' - my "watershed painting", that I realised what I had been missing.
